Papers, 1960-1983, of Elson, an iconoclastic and well-known Madison lawyer and graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School who specialized in what he called "looney law," being a leading advocate for the treatment of the mentally ill. Elson also ran for several public offices in the Madison area including mayor and district attorney and was involved with diverse groups including Pro Marijuana activists and the Wisconsin Student Association (Pail and Shovel Party), as well as other leftist groups from the late 1960's and early 1970's.
